Kevin Barnett, the co-creator and executive producer of Fox’s comedy REL, has died while on vacation in Mexico, Deadline reports. Barnett was believed to be in his early 30s, but there are no details regarding the cause of death at publish time.

Barnett posted a photo from his trip to Instagram on Saturday, Jan. 19, writing, “In Mexico. Bought myself a sweater. Been accused of appropriation several times. In my head I just gave a lady some money so I ain’t cold. Either way. Swag heavy. Mixtape comin. @alexjonesbaby.”

20th Century Fox TV & Fox Entertainment released the following statement about Barnett’s passing: “Our hearts are broken, as are those of everyone at REL, at the news of Kevin Barnett’s passing. He was an incredibly funny, wildly talented man who had so much more to do and so many more stories to tell. We send our thoughts and prayers to his friends and family during this difficult time.”

REL, starring Lil Rel Howery, premiered on Fox in September 2018. It follows the story of a male nurse in Chicago whose life is left in pieces when he finds out his wife has been sleeping with his barber. REL premiered to strong numbers but saw a drastic drop in viewers after the pilot.

REL airs Sundays at 9:30/8:30c on Fox.
